Drug Task Force

The secret of success is consistency of purpose

Benjamin Disraeli

Webster County takes a no-nonsense approach to drug enforcement. All deputy sheriff's are trained to do everything possible to locate illegal drugs in Webster County. Our office works closely with COMET, Combined Ozark Multi-Jurisdictional Eradication Team to seek out drug labs and illegal drug activity. We encourage citizens to contact us with any illegal drug information they have no matter how small. To report illegal drug activity contact Captain Rick Hamilton at 417-943-0816.

Keeping drugs off the streets is our priority and we periodically participate in "Drug Take Back" Programs. The second most frequently abused drug after marijuana in the United States is prescription drugs. Unused medication in the household may contribute to growing rates of prescription drug abuse among Americans, particularly teenagers.

Meth Lab bust. These ingredients when combined are very volitable and unpredictable.

Knowledge is power. The more you know about Meth, the more we can attack it head on.

Empower yourself by reading the facts below:

  • Meth (Methamphetamine) is a super powerful and highly addictive stimulant that affects the pleasure centers of the brain.
  • It hides under many names: "Meth", "Speed", "Chalk", "Ice", "Crystal", "Crank", "Glass", "Yaba", "Fire", "Tina" and "Tweak". Another word we like to call it is "EVIL".
  • It's chemistry is deadly and easy to conjure up. Ingredients include over-the-counter drugs (mainly decongestants), drain cleaner, ammonia, kerosene, nail polish remover, brake fluid and even battery acid.
  • It's cooked in illegal, homemade Meth labs. These labs involve the use of toxic and volatile substances. They emit offensive fumes and harmful gases. These labs can be highly explosive and can very well be next door to you right now.
  • Meth can be swallowed, snorted, smoked, injected or inserted anally.
  • When taken, Meth enters the bloodstream, invades the central nervous system and reacts with the body's natural levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine, which it floods into the pleasure centers of the brain. This then triggers the Meth high, which can last 6-24 hours.
  • Physical Effects from short-term use: a feeling of euphoria, energy and alertness along with loss of appetite, rapid breathing and dangerous increases in body temperature.
  • Physical Effects from long-term use: the brain's inability to produce dopamine, leaving users unable to experience any kind of pleasure except that of more Meth; out-of-control addiction; anxiety; paranoia; depression; hallucinations; violent mood swings; suicidal thoughts; delusional sensations (like feeling insects, which are not there, crawling on the skin); rotted out teeth; decreased sexual performance.
  • Peripheral Side Effects: infections at injection sites, skin rashes and the potential spread of other deadly diseases like HIV and hepatitis.
  • Users look like you, your child, your brother, your sister, your parents, your teacher, your friend. Users look desperate and determined to get what they want at any cost, including burglary and prostitution.
  • Meth is unbiased in who it hurts. It hurts the user, families, friendships, neighborhoods and even the environment.
  • The toxic garbage left from a Meth lab can be near schools, on roadsides or local parks.
  • Meth is sold on the street. It can be anywhere you look.
